The Heronfield Board of Trustees unanimously selects John Turner as the next Head of School
Congratulations to John
We are thrilled to announce that John Turner will be the next Head of School at Heronfield Academy. After a unanimous vote of the search committee and the Board of Trustees, John will begin this new position immediately. Amy McLaughlin, Board Chair, responded to the Board’s vote by saying, “Immediately after John joined Heronfield Academy as our Interim Head, his passion for education was obvious. His leadership quickly encouraged all members of our community to embrace the challenges of 2020 with patience, perseverance and strategic vision. It is with great joy that we welcome him as our new Head of School.”
As most of our community is aware, John joined us as Interim Head after serving 10 years as the Director of the Middle School at the Foote School in New Haven, CT. Previous to that, he served at the Severn School near Annapolis, MD, as Academic Dean for both the Upper and Middle Schools. Throughout his 26 years at these two schools, John always held a place in the classroom, most often teaching eighth grade English and History; he was also a hockey, lacrosse and soccer coach and assisted in several drama productions.
A graduate of Dartmouth College with a BA in English, Mr. Turner also holds a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Seton Hall University. It did not take long for Mr. Turner to demonstrate his effective leadership, his passion for education, and his ability to bring together a community of students, teachers, and families during challenging circumstances. He exemplifies the core values of Heronfield Academy – honesty, respect, diligence, celebration, and caring – and we are honored to name him our Head of School.
Please join us in congratulating John as he leads the Heronfield community forward.
